Join us on Remembrance Sunday 2026

Every year people across the UK come together to remember those who have died in wars across the world.

Remembrance Day marks the day World War One ended - at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, in 1918.

As in previous years, the hall committee invites you to mark the occasion by joining friends and neighbours at an afternoon event on the 8th November. We will hear from our guest speaker, Gareth Howell, to learn more about Remembrance Day and the role of the British Legion. We will also hear how Remembrance Day changed after the Second World War.

You can also enjoy an optional Sunday lunch, where the cooking and washing up is taken care of by others.

The hall will be making a donation in support of this year's Tysoe Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The event should close at approximately 3:00pm

Gareth Howell - a short biography

Gareth recently moved to Gloucester, after being a popular speaker up in Nottingham for over a decade. He regularly appeared on BBC Radio Nottingham as an historical adviser, most notably as the military historian when Armed Forces Day was hosted at Nottingham. He also acted as a Politics advisor, covering the resignation of Keir Starmer, Boris Johnson and the first Truss vs Sunak debate. He has also spoken on BBC Notts on topics as diverse as Richard 3rd, the tanks, the Home Guard and the Easter Rising, for which he also appeared on a programme with BBC Ulster.

He is also a regular guest speaker for Abingdon Museum in Oxfordshire, the British Biomedical Institute, Buxton Museum and various Rotary clubs, and has performed some TV work for BBC Ulster and for Channel 4. He is a speaker for a number of Cruise ship lines, and has appeared as a history speaker for the veterans program for Nottingham Forest and Gloucester Rugby and has recently been hired to work on the British Museum Bayeux Tapestry display.

How do I book lunch?

Pre-booking for your Sunday lunch is essential. The cut-off for ordering food is a week before the event, whilst space remains, so if the TALK & LUNCH option is not displaying, it means the LUNCH option has sold out. But do please still come to the talk and purchase a ticket by clicking on the TALK button.

What's the timing for those wishing to eat?

The hall will open at 12:00pm, with food service starting soon thereafter. This gives diners plenty of time to eat, ready to join those not dining with us who will arrive in the main hall from 1:00pm, ready for the talk to commence promptly at 1:30pm

What's for lunch?

A two course Sunday lunch of roast beef and seasonable vegetables will be prepared and served by our kitchen team from 12:00pm, allowing plenty of time to eat and enjoy ahead of the talk commencing promptly at 1:30pm

Fancy a glass of wine with dinner or a nice coffee or tea after your meal? Just ask one of our kitchen team, they'll be happy to bring it to your table. And as a bonus - we will clear away and do the washing up!!

NOTE: Please let us know of any dietary requirements when you book, through the "your message for the merchant" box during checkout. We need seven clear calendar days before the event, whilst we have capacity, to ensure we can meet any requests.
