Introduction
Tysoe Village Hall Trust is a registered charity, operated by a committee of unpaid Trustees and volunteers, many of whom have served the hall and village for many years. The committee is very active, managing bookings, maintenance and refurbishment programmes, updating policies & procedures, marketing the hall - AND running fundraising events.
It's a lot of work - but the team enjoy the impact that our lovely hall has upon our village. To achieve more, whilst managing our costs as much as practically possible, we would like to work with a group of additional volunteers, who don't have either the time or desire to be a formal committee member or Trustee, but wish to support.
What kind of support would The Friends give?
There are many opportunities to get involved, covering three main groups : events, refurbishment and general input. Some examples could include:
- Event support - be part of the team that knows how to (safely) stack chairs and get them back into place, fold the big tables (and keep all their fingers...) and get them back in the storeroom, who might receive training on how the card machine works or how to operate the lovely new commercial dishwasher and get the kitchen back to ship shape after the crowds have gone home
- Refurbishment - our hall is like the Forth Road Bridge - and now it's being used even more (up 25% in hirings over 2023) it needs regular splashes of paint to look at its best, there is moss clearing round the complex, ramps and paths to jetwash, you get the idea. We seek villagers in good health that have practical skills and don't mind getting their hands a bit dirty
- General input - the Management Committee run the hall for the village. We regularly review our facilities, the events we host and the groups that we try to encourage to be present. We would welcome further support in this area, so that we stay as relevant as possible across potential visitors and hiring groups
It is quite possible that a Friend of the Hall could fit in all THREE groups - but all help is welcomed, no matter your particular skill or desire to support. During your time at working at the hall you are covered under the terms of our insurance policy.
How will things be organised?
We propose to set up a Friends of Tysoe Village Hall (FoTVH) whatsapp group for easy and quick communication. The hall team will share planned dates (or potential dates in the case of planned maintenance projects) with the group and seek a show of hands for certain tasks that need to be covered. No pressure, no commitment, all very relaxed.
We also plan, probably once per quarter, to get ALL of The Friends into the hall for a cuppa, some cake and to have a brainstorm about potential event ideas, maybe take a walk around the complex to discuss any ideas for improvement and hear your valuable input into how to keep improving the hall.
Does this sound interesting to you?
We'd love to hear from you and have your support - please see a member of the committee, or get in touch here.
