What is Net Zero?
The term net zero means achieving a balance between the carbon emitted into the atmosphere and the carbon removed from it. This balance – or net zero – will happen when the amount of carbon we add to the atmosphere is no more than the amount removed.
As a Management Committee we are proud of the steps we have taken, so far, to reduce our environmental impact. We have published and will regularly review, our Environmental Policy.
These include:
- Installing dual flush cisterns in our toilet facilities
- Fitment of draft excluders on all external doors
- Using LED light fittings
- Ensuring the hall consumes as little energy as possible when unoccupied
- Correct levels of insulation are installed in our roof spaces
- Managing our heating to ensure that hiring spaces consume energy efficiently
Recent world events have of course increased energy costs markedly and as a business consumer (in the eyes of the energy companies) we do not benefit from the energy price cap energy suppliers charge residential consumers. From April 2024 we have seen almost a doubling of our energy costs, which is not sustainable. This must of course be viewed in the context of a building nearly a century old, not benefiting from the progress the construction industry has made in more recent years.
A committee sub-group has been working on some major plans to address our energy consumption costs. These are impactful to the hall building and to our finances.
As a next step before we progress these plans we wish to listen to the views of Tysoe's parishioners and hall users.
We invite all members of the village to join us on the 11th July at 7.15pm for an hour (or so) of interactive dialogue.
